Yes. : I never use general anesthesia for a colonoscopy. A good conscious sedation will give you a state of amnesia and you won't remember anything about the procedure. A rn trained in sedation or an anesthesia health care provider can take care of you. Safe procedure in usa.

Yes: Intravenous sedation can be very effective in assuring comfort and sedation during a colonoscopy. General anesthesia, though used commonly because it can be "eliminated" so quickly from one's body, isn't mandatory. Discuss with your endoscopist or anesthesiologist! no worries!

Colonoscopy sedation: General anesthesia is not required for colonoscopy. The sedation utilized most is Propofol via intravenous. It does require that the patient is fully monitored for their safety. Depending on the provider and the patient underlying co-morbidities sedation may vary from light, medium or heavy. Conscious sedation is a synonym for light sedation, meaning the patient is arrousable at any given moment.
