Chondromalacia: Early arthritis could cause pain with kneeling, especially if the cartilage on the undersurface of the kneecap (patella) is damaged. This is called chondromalacia. Some people call this early arthritis but it does not necessarily progress to arthritis (which is the total erosion of the cartilage). X-rays and MRI can help make a diagnosis so the appropriate treatment can be prescribed. Good luck!
