Specific pattern: Calling out for you at night is unlikely to be a night terror. Night terrors are events that occur in deep sleep like sleep walking, and the child has no memory of the event. If you touch a kid in a night terror, they do not awaken but contine for a time & then relax back into sleep if you let them. Touch a kid in a nightmare & they aleart immediately & know you. If they're just lonely they call.

It is a "nightmare": Night terrors occur during "non-rem" sleep after approximately 90 min. Of sleep. Children "awaken" screaming with fear, panic, & confusion. They are not consolable & unaware of a parent's presence. They usually don't talk and thrash about. +increased heart rates, fast breathing & sweating during episodes is noted. Nightmares occur in the last 1/3 of sleep with children easily awoken and comforted.
