Both can occur. Talk: To your surgeon. He should be the only one to tell you, whether to take any weight on it or not, as it would be dependent on the quality of the repair and the tissue. So talk to him and heed his advise.

Depends on surgery: The mcl takes many weeks to heal and depends on the type of surgery used. When you should put weight on your leg after surgery needs to be made by your surgeon. Please don't weight bear before your doctor says it is ok.
