Relax!: The risk of general anesthesia is usually based on your underlying medical condition. Monitoring during surgical cases is so advanced these days that anesthetic compications have been minimized substantially. Anesthesia personnel are there to keep you safe and comfortable while the surgeon takes care of the broken parts. Follow the pre-op instructions and you will do fine!

I understand: It is not normal to ask someone to put you to sleep while another works on you. The risks are minimal, in fact i tell my patients that they are more likely to have problems driving to the hospital to have the surgeon. Talk to your anesthesiologist before the operation and they can give you medications to relieve you anxiety.
