I take 1 allapurinol 100 for many yrs. now uric acid is quite normal. last attack 25 yrs ago. can i stop taking w/o risking attack?

No: Stopping Allopurinol will cause the serum uric acid to rise and the risk of gout to increase.

Good Question: The issue is whether you are stone free because, or despite the fact, you are on allopurinol. It is a once a day medication and generic (inexpensive). You may have to be off if for two years to see if it really was providing you ongoing benefit. Talk with your doctor.
