Difficult to know: If every person who claimed they had cfs actually did, then recovery is incredibly uncommon. The problem is that often this is a diagnosis of exclusion. The only proven cause is herpes type 6 and this is not treatable. The myriad of conditions responsible for chronic fatigue makes it a target for those who like to be able to label things. Often there may be end benefits to claiming this.

Yes: As a physician who treats a number of patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (cfs), i can tell you that yes, some patients do recover. However, it is a process and typically doesn't happen overnight. The most important step in recovery is determining what is causing or worsening your symptoms. There are a large number of causes, and you should see a physician who specializes in cfs for evaluation.
