The Kidneys: That is, renal size, contour, cortical thickness, focal areas of scarring if present, presence or absence of cysts, stones, obstruction, malrotation, solid masses if over 3-4 cm in diameter. If doppler study is done there can be assessment of the renal arteries and renal perfusion. That enough?

Anatomy: The ultrasound will confirm you have 2 kidneys, that they are normal size, that there are no cysts, tumors, or stones, and that they are not obstructed. A renal doppler is used to confirm that the renal artery blood flow isn't restricted.
