Trauma: Repetitive micro-trauma (small trauma caused by repetitive motions) can cause the nail to separate from the nail bed. If it is in your toenails it could be from the way you walk or your arches not being supportive. I recommend seeing a dermatologist or podiatrist if the problem persists.
