A member asked:

I have hepatitis and bad liver from a blood transfusion in 1980s. my doctor wants to start meds but why bother?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

To stay alive: I assume this is either hepatitis b or c, both of which are now treatable. If actively producing disease it will progress to cirrhosis of the liver, liver failure and a high frequency of hepatocellular carcinoma. Treatment is difficult and not exactly a joyride, but slow death from this condition is not a pleasant alternative.
