It depends: A 3rd-degree burn is one that is all the way thru the skin. Unless it is very narrow, such that it can heal in from the sides, it requires surgical closure, usually a skin graft. So if the wound were known to be a 3rd-degree burn, it could have already been skin grafted by 1 week. If not, it would either be covered by tough eschar (i.e., the dead burned skin on top) or be open and raw.
