Yes: Ascites often can be removed in the office(called paracentesis), sometimes with ultrasound guidance. The more important question is identifying the etiology of the ascites(cirrhosis, malignant, portal htn, infection, etc). Otherwise, if the primary cause is not addressed, paracentesis is only a short term solution(palliative and/or cosmetic).
