Good intentions.: It's great that you want to stay fit and take care of your knees. I worry, though, that with the stairs you will be placing unnecessary strain on your knees - which could cause injury and totally undermine any efforts to stay fit. Skip the stairs, and stick to low impact exercise - swimming, elliptical, recline bike. When your knees start to get stronger, then you can do the stairs.
