Thickened skin?: Thickened, dark skin under the arms is a sign of acanthosis nigricans. Acanthosis is a velvety thickening of the skin that occurs most commonly in Insulin resistance (pre-diabetes) or other hormone disorders. If this is what you are describing, please see your dermatologist for evaluation and management.
