Because some: Patients want something done - they do not like the answer "this is viral, there are no medicines to treat it, you need to treat the symptoms and wait". No one likes to wait. If that kind of patient does not get something, they may think the doctor is not very good, and look for another doctor that will give them a pill. It is sad to say, but has happened.
