What kind: What kind of disturbance? He can see his physician to do an appropriate eye exam and find out the underlying cause. If it happened all of a sudden you may want to go to the er as it may be an emergency.

"Disturbance" : Difficult to tell from your description. I recommend that he see an ophthalmologist (an md who specializes in medical and surgical eye diseases) or an optometrist (an eye doctor but not an md).
