Vasodilattachycardia: Norvasc (amlodipine) is a vasodilator and hence incresed vascular space the heart compensates by increasing heart rate you are young to have this degree of hypertension make sure you donot have increased catecholamines as a cause of tachycardia you may need beta blockers to supplement if the other possibilities are excluded.

May or may not be: This may or may not be the norvasc (amlodipine). With your multiple comorbidities you need to have your physician evaluate this. There could be other reasons. Does the Norvasc (amlodipine) actually lower the blood pressure too much. If so then the body may be responding physiologically.

Then see your doctor: Your physician expects you to report any problems with rx meds or disorders under treatment. Your increased heart rate is not necessarily from the medication, so get re-evaluated.

HIgh BP at age 18: Speak to your physician about your pulse. You need to be evaluated for secondary causes of hypertension. You're 18 years old and say you have been on Norvasc (amlodipine) for a while. You need to be evaluated for secondary hypertension (s). This could be caused by a renal artery stenosis, conn's syndrome and a coarctation of the aorta, among others. You may not have s, but hypertension is rare at age 18.
