Yes: Weight bearing impact exercise would be ideal but if paralysis prevents this, then start looking for metabolic causes first before considering medications. Stop smoking (if you do), check thyroid function, avoid steroids if possible, get enough vitamin d, etc. Then get DXA to determine bone mineral density. Use frax (http://www.Shef.Ac.Uk/frax/) to determine fracture risk. Consider medication if.

Osteoporosis : Some exercises might help if possible. If having osteoporosis the medications for osteoporosis can help( bisphosphonates ). Inactivity is a risk factor for osteoporosis.

Go to PCP: Go to your pcp to get a blood draw of vitamin d levels to see if he/she needs vitamin d. Also may need alendronate and calcium supplements. Additionally, may need further bloodwork to determine source of osteoporosis like parathyroid hormone levels.
