A member asked:

What will a doctor do if someone with diabetes refuses to do blood tests if they need too?

Ask why?: I would hope that the doctor would spend the time to ask the patient why they would refuse the tests. Listening empathetically, i would hope that the physician could address any fears or misunderstandings that would make this patient chose to not want to be tested. The patient needs to understand that diabetes is the most measured disease in the world. Great care is based on these test results.

Educate: Diabetes is a chronic condition with severe complications if not properly controlled. Some complications include loss of vision, large ulcers of limbs that can lead to amputation, severe nerve pain, severe infections and heart disease. The doctor can help with education on importance of blood sugar monitoring, medicines as needed and a healthier lifestyle.
