Shouldn't: Oral opioids taken as prescribed should not cause further damage to lungs.

No.: Opiods do not cause lung damage although they can cause respiratory depression through their effect on the central nervous system, so if you have any co2 retention opiods may not be a good medication. Discuss with your lung doctor.
