Not good idea: Might be better to replace the cap, or ideally reposition your teeth and then refine restorations.

Not a good idea: Veneers are best placed on teeth with lots of enamel. Veneers on caps do not bond well to porcelain or metal, but are done when bridges need repairs--place 1 veneer rather than replace the entire bridge. It is best to replace caps rather than place veneers over them.

Veneers on caps?: A veneer is like a fake finger nail. Veneers are used to preserve tooth structure. A cap is like a thimble that covers the entire tooth. Veneers can be placed on capped teeth, but usually not recommended. If you have a broken or discolored cap, the best solution would be to do a new cap or crown.

Yes but difficult: It is possible (I have done only a few), but needs the perfect situation of "enough clearance", and "not in a very visible area". Because of the potential "not ideal" situation , I usually propose replacing the crown with a new one.

Rarely: It has been done in rare cases with just the right conditions. You would be better off having the crowns replaced as the cost is about the same. With the right cosmetic dentist, they should last many years.

Yes, but not ideal!: Capped or teeth with crowns are not ideal for resurfacing with new veneers. The bond will never really be ideal, your teeth will be thicker and you might have issues with perfecting the color. As the cost for porcelain veneers and new crowns are nearly the same, it would make much better sense to just get new crowns. Regardless, get the facts from your dentist before you decide.

Well.......: There are some dentists and dental companies that may place a veneer on a capped tooth. I have seen pictures of this being done. I cannot say this is harmful. This can work. However, this is not how veneers were intended to be used. Is it malpractice to place a veneer on a capped tooth; I would say no. In short, to answer your question in a word.....yes.

Yes, you can: The simple answer is that yes veneers can be placed over existing crowns. However, it’s about the same amount of work as doing a new crown.

Not advised: Although it is possible, the logistics make it difficult to create a beautiful and long lasting result... Better off remaking the crown. You will have a better result and spend less in the long run.

Doubtful: Replacement of the crown is the best treatment. If the porcelain has chipped off of a crown and you are wondering if a veneer can be bonded over the top, I question longevity. But I would consider more than one opinion.
