Not necessarily: Taking nsaids like ibuprofen, advil, or Aleve (naproxen) can help. Also sinus decongestants may help alleviate most sinus congestion-related symptoms. Some allergies can make sinus congestion worse.

Not necessarily: Acute sinus infections: sudden onset of cold symptoms-runny/stuffy nose with sinus pain that doesn't go away after 7-10 days. Consistent/persistent post nasal drip of thick yellow greenish mucus in the back of the throat with fever that doesn't go away would would be a good reason to see your doctor to consider the diagnosis and treatment.
