An indefinite period: Cfs and similar syndromes describes a constellation of signs and symptoms that have a significant component of fatigue. Since medicine doesn't yet know the specific causes and biology of cfs, it is not possible to predict for how long, however, don't despair- there will be some better days intermittently occuring in the life of cfs patients.

Indefinite: The chronic in this diagnosis means many years. No one knows for sure and therapy is rather ineffective so patients with this condition have to put up with it for what seems like a lifetime.
