Many possibilities: Medical conditions, emotional or stress problems, life-style schedules, pregnancy or menopause, etc. Are possible. Even good things like exercise (too late in the day) can do it. Too large a meal too late can, and on and on. Troubling emotional associations from the past about bedtime too. Maybe a therapist can help you untangle it so you can sleep well.

Anxiety: If you are a worrier and ruminating, you may be distracted during the day, but when left with your thoughts before you go to bed, these may keep you up. Taking a hot shower or bath, as well as a hot drink (tea or milk) and going to bed into a cooler bedroom or bed can help train your body to sleep. Also 15-30 minutes before bed turn off any screens (ipad, iphone, laptop, tv) to reduce stimulation.
