How effective are non-prescription nose drops or sprays?

Good and Bad: Over the counter saline sprays are helpful. I would be careful with medications like afrin, (oxymetazoline) vicks, etc. These can lead to rebound and dependence.

I heard it is dangerous to pick your nose. Is this true?

Yes: This will increase your risk of bleeding and infections of the nose and septum. There are a lot of bacteria trapped under the fingernails. Breaking the lining to the nose could "innoculate" the tissue and be a set-up for a bad infection. Clean your nose in a moist environment like when you shower.

Scratch on nose scab hasn't healed in 2 years?

See your doctor: Skin lesions that don't heal are always a concern for a form of skin cancer (basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma). See your family doctor or dermatologist as soon as possible to confirm a diagnosis.
