A member asked:

An abnormal band is seen in the gamma region? does this mean it's cancer related?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly: It sounds like you had a test called a serum electrophoresis. This looks at the proteins in the serum and when they speak about the "gamma band", this refers to to one of the immunoglobulin protein components. This region has an increased band in tumors that secrete excess immunoglobulin. This is seen with multiple myeloma, one of the cancers of the blood cells. These cells normally make antibodies.
