ACL tear: If complete, you will have instability and more progressive arthritis, swelling, & pain. You will be limited with adls. Bracing & pt can help, but at your age, check with orthopedic surgeon to likely schedule acl reconstruction.

Yes: The acl is necessary for jump, pivot, twist, and change of direction sports. Inline activities like walking, running, biking, and swimming do not require a functioning acl. Many individuals can live normal lives with their acl. Some people, however, will have buckling or instability in their knee with daily activities. Consult with a orthopaedic sports surgeon to see what is best for you.
