Each case is unique: Stage IV idc has about a 20% 5 year survival by american cancer society stats; but no case is typical. The speed of growth and prognosis depend on many things, including: tumor size, grade and staging of disease, the presence of certain tumor markers (her/2) and whether your cancer has hormone receptors for estrogen and progesterone. I suggest you discuss these issues with your oncologist further.

Metastatic disease: I'm sorry to hear about your condition. No one can say for sure how long the disease has been in the spine. However, it is likely to have been there for at least 3 to 6 months. The growth rate of lesions can vary dramatically from person to person.
