A member asked:

I had a surface echo on my heart and my global strain analysis is 19% is that normal? and what does that really mean?

Strain: 19% is within the range of normals for this parameter in most studies. It is a way of measuring heart contractile function.

Sounds little low.: Typically normal global strain 21-30s in labs i know. But each lab or each machine are different. You need to ask the lab you had procedure, what their normal is. We see lower strain in pts with low ef, HTN left ventriculat hypertrophy etc. Can improve if BP or ef gets better. Rec to check with interpreting cardiologist for their normal values.
