What are the odds of dying from an abcessed tooth?

Rare: It is rare to die from an abscessed tooth. However, if an infected tooth is left untreated you can develop a serious infection. One of which, ludwig's angina, is a serious infection resulting from a lower molar that can lead to airway obstruction and death. So it can happen.

DONT TAKE that risk: This unfortunately does happen due to neglect or lack of access to care. I would say if you receive regular dental care the odds are very low, if you neglect your teeth and do not seek treatment at necessary times than i would say you have a good chance to have a severe and possibly deadly problem when it arises.

RARE but: We do hear of such cases every once in a while. Never take a chance. Always see a dentist immediately for any dental infection and get the proper antibiotics and treatment.

Very rare: Except for isolated cases the odds are almost 0. Now, if the abscess is not treated on time and gets worse and invade some facial spaces like the faringeal or submandibular spaces the patient may die. Check ludwig angina on the internet.
