Abscessed tooth: you need to see a dentist and have the tooth treated with a root canal or an extraction. Antibiotics alone will not cure an abscessed tooth.

Abscessed tooth: A tooth that has an abscess (infected nerve) will not heal on it's own. The tooth will need a root canal treatment, or will have to be extracted. If you are in pain or have swelling, an antibiotic will help alleviate the symptoms. It will not heal the abscess. Make an appointment with your dentist. Do not wait too long to see a dentist, because the abscess will only get worse.

Get immediate Care: Abscessed teeth can be a very dangerous health situation, not just a problem for the tooth. The proximity of the teeth to the sinus, as well as the closeness of the sinus to the brain has occasionally resulted in death from a tooth abscess spreading to the brain. An abscess is a bacterial infection and as such, it is possible to spread throughout the body.

Determine the cause: Once the cause of the abscess is determined, then proper treatment can begin. Is it periodontally related, or endodontically related? Either way you need a dentist to treat these conditions. Call for an appointment.

See a dentist ASAP: The tooth infection won't go away without treatment and the infection may spread to your jaw, cheeks, sinus and to other areas of your body. Dentist will treat a tooth abscess by treating the cause and getting rid of the infection. Do not delay. Good luck.
