If possible, walk: I tell my patients that if you are able to stay active then to try to do so. Sometimes, however, the pain is too severe, and rest can help.

Walk: Rest for 2-3 days, try nsaids walk as tolerated or cycle. If no improvement seek nerve block then exercise ... If no positive results the surgery becomes an option.

Rest Not Recommended: Always good to stay active as long as it doesn't make your pain worse. Too much rest makes things worse for sure. Usually it resolves in majority of patients within a few weeks, if longer than that consider seeing your doctor.
