A 35-year-old member asked:

how long does it take for a broken leg to heal for an adult one?

Dr. Daniel Hampton
Orthopedic Surgery 15 years experience
It's variable: It depends on which bone in the leg is broken, how bad the break is, if surgery needed to be done. There are a variety of factors that matter. In addition often people are allowed to start walking on the bone (depending on the bone, break, and what was done) even if it isn't 100% "healed".

What happens if a child gets an adult flu shot?

Dr. Annie Emmick
Pediatrics 27 years experience
No worries: The only difference between the flu shots is the dose: children under three get half the adult dose. That means a child will get an adult dose the day after his 3rd birthday, whereas the day before that birthday he would have received the smaller dose--half. Most importantly, the child is immunized against flu, which can be a terrible illness!

Why does my calf hurt when I stand on my toes?

Dr. Eric Lullove
Podiatry 19 years experience
Tight Calf Muscles!: The reason your calf hurts is how tight the entire muscle group is. When you stand on your toes, the calf muscle contracts, and if it is tight, then you may have pain. Performing runners' stretches are very beneficial and should help reduce the pain. If it continues, seek medical treatment with a podiatrist.
