Alternatives exist: Asthma inhalers in powder form can cause throat irritation. Yes the hfa form of advair should be as potent if the dosage is maintained. There are other options for treatment. Talk to your doctor. With any powdered inhaler, rinsing the throat after use helps minimize irritation.

DIfferent but minima: Advair hfa (salmeterol and fluticasone) is fluticasone 45mcg / salmeterol 25mcg or 115mcg/21mcg respectively. This can be dosed to be about equal to what you may have been on with the advair diskus.
