Yes: Miscarriage and spontaneous abortion are the same. Spontaneous abortion is the medical term. Miscarriages are quite common, but less so at 13 weeks. It is difficult to see what causes these so soon after an exam. I tell my patients that with a miscarriage, there is something wrong with the pregnancy, and that this is natures way of ensuring you have a healthy baby.
