Accutane? No: If you mean Accutane for acne, the answer is no; has been associated with flares of ibd (mostly ulcerative colitis).

It takes time: I know how you feel, you were told Accutane is the miracle drug that makes acne vanish but a look in the mirror makes it unconvincing. The truth is it takes some time. Depending on the dosage you are taking (20mg/40mg, etc) the amount of time will vary. I personally took 20mg once daily and broke out for about 5 and a half months after starting. 7 months in i would have no more than 2 pimples/month.

Inhibits: Exact mechanism of Isotretinoin is unknown, but it inhibits sebaceous (oil) gland function and reduces secretion.

No: Talk to your doctor about your concerns. Remember that people that have a good result are not as likely to write about it as those who had a bad one. Accutane is a serious medicine but it does work very well for many people. Don't go just by the horror stories. But do get more information from your doctor. Good luck!

Related to dry skin: The risks of Accutane are most commonly related to dry skin (xeroderma) and include dry eyes or arthralgias or eczema but there are some serious concerns about teratogenic effects.
A 40-year-old member asked:

Depends: I have seen side effects such as dry lips last even 5 years after treatment. However this is not the norm with all patients. Hope that helps.
