Possibly: That's a bony procedure so it could certainly cause pain for several weeks. At this point you have probably been instructed to begin range of motion - over time, that should help, but may be painful initially. After surgery, an infection is always a possibility, so see your physician if there you have redness or drainage or fever.

Yes: A carpal boss is a bony growth on the back of the wrist where two bones come together and where a tendon inserts onto the bone. This can simulate a ganglion, but requires bone instruments to remove. This will be more swollen and sore than after a ganglion removal. Soreness can last for 3-4 months, but motion should get better before then.
