Cough medicines: You do have to be careful and some cough and cold medicines contain other medicines like Aspirin or even tylenol (acetaminophen). Need to read the label and make sure you aren't getting more Aspirin or tylenol (acetaminophen) than is safe. Aspirin is okay for muscle aches, but other anti-inflammatories such as Ibuprofen work pretty well, too, but they last a bit longer.

Cough meds: Some cough medications have non steroidal antiinflammatory medications in them such as ibuprofen, which you do not want to mix with aspirin. If it is just robitussin, (guaifenesin) then yes you can take Aspirin with it.
