A member asked:

How long after treatment for c diff and resolution of symptoms before safe to have surgery? postop antibiotics will be used.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hard to say...: If symptoms have resolved, then the longer one can wait until readministering antibiotics the better. Having said that, if the surgery needs to be done right away then a few options might help prevent reinfection, including probiotics, use of a medicine that can treat c diff (vancomycin or flagyl, eg), or not using prophylactic antibiotics.
