Vicks: You can rub Vicks on your chest safely. It will not cause pneumonia, but will help you breath easier.

Vick's Vaporub: As long as it is vick's vaporub and you don't do it extremely often you should be fine. Once it wears off you should wash it off and try other home remedies to try and relieve any symptoms :].
