Dx of exclusion: Conversion disorder is where patients suffer neurological symptoms such as numbness, blindness, paralysis, or even seizures, but without a neurological cause. It is a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning that a neurologist will do a thorough examination and testing, attempting to find the cause of the symptoms. If no cause can be found, the diagnosis, by exclusion, is a conversion disorder.

Get checked out: A conversion disorder is where a person has a physical symptom or symptoms without any physical basis and there are underlying psychological issues bringing this about. The person needs to have a physical evaluation to rule out any organic causes and then a psychological evaluation to determine the psychological problem and hopefully treat it.
