DNA : Dna testing may help to determine this if the specific disease in question is genetically linked.

Not necessarily : DNA testing is not a good way of making diagnosis of most disorders. There are a limited number of diseases where maternal or paternal inheritance is important. A more specific question would elicit a more specific answer. Wish you good health.
