Heat and Posture: Muscles in the neck most commonly tighten from either poor posture (making them work harder to support your head), or from an injury to the neck (in which your muscles tighten up to provide support to the spine). Improving your posture and ergonomics is the best way to prevent tight muscles, and warm compresses are a good modality to help muscles relax. Then do gentle range of motion exercises.
