Possible neuroma: A neuroma or interdigital nerve entrapment or tumor could be the underlying cause. Irritation of the nerve between the 2nd and 3rd toes can result in numbness of the second toe. Have a foot specialist evaluate it. An orthtoic or possible steriod injection may prove very helpful.

Nerve pressure: You may be developing a neuroma or if you have hammertoes you may have nerve compression. Try wearing a wider shoe to see if this gives relief.
