Depends?: Treatment depends on what is causing the swelling. If you had an injury you can treat this with ice and elevation, but you need an x-ray to r/o a fracture. Other causes include, gout, arthritis, infection, all with very different treatments. Sounds like you need to talk to your doctor to figure out the best treatment.

Swelling: Can be due to trauma infection inflammation gout arthritis etc the first thing is the term in the cars and then treatment becomes apparent ice is good in general as are nsaids trauma needs perhaps x-rays to rule out fracture. The extent of swelling and duration are important factors too. A hand surgeon can help
