My finger is swollen and a little red not sure what caused this but i am having some discomfort in the finger. how can i treat it? any ointments?

Need more detail: Various possible diagnoses. May need DR. Meanwhile can soak in hot water, then rub in vaseline or other lubricating ointment (cream).
