Possibly: If your "tmj" pain is really muscular it may help. Also warm moist heat over the area, a soft diet and ibuprofen.

Tmj pain: Salt water gargling may help cleanse tonsils and throat tissues and thereby relieve tightness or pressure but if there is muscle imbalance and/or joint dysfunction, there would be no long term benefits. Consult with a dentist who understands function.

No: Salt water gargle will help with pain IN the mouth. Will do nothing for TMJ. See a TMJ expert to help evaluate and treat your problem. A TMJ expert can be general dentist, an oral surgeon, prosthodontist, orofacial pain specialist. Ask your physician, dentist or dental society for a recommendation.
