Genetics/irritants: Most people who have what we consider to have sensitive skin are also atopics. This means they have a combination of allergies asthma and eczema. These are all mediated by a hypersensitive immune system that may be allergicaly mediated through cells called eosinophils. In addition people with this genetic makeup have a defect in a keratin protein called fillagrin. This defect makes the membrane function of the skin less effective in preventing water loss to the environment little cracks developed within the skin and then such as soaps perfumes laundry detergents etc. Get through the skin.
