Dryness: The usual cause is dryness. Try artificial tears over the counter, 3 - 4 times daily. If this does not help, there actually may be something in your eye that is stuck in the cornea or under the upper or lower lids. An ophthalmologist will determine and treat as necessary.

Dry eyes: This is a very common symptom of dry eyes, although your eye doctor may wish to make sure there is no foreign body in the eye.
