Many causes: Scratching of an eye is only one cause of redness (and pain and visual lowering). This could be allergy, contact lens problems, internal inflammation, lid inflammation, and a number of others. If the vision is affected, if there is pain, if there is pus discharge, then you should see your ophthalmologist for evaluation.
